Description. A simplified power cycle diagram depicting the concept in which two Westinghouse 501 (W501) gas turbines exhaust into individual heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and produce steam for a 100 MW steam turbine. In 1970, Westinghouse introduced the Power at Combined Efficiency (PACE) pre-engineered combined-cycle power plant concept. Why a combined cycle power plant? The simple reason - efficiency. When compared to a traditional coal or gas fired plant (boiler or simple cycle combustion turbine), a combined cycle plant's overall efficiency can be 20 - 30% greater. This means that fuel use is 20 - 30% less and the fuel cost per megawatthour is 20 - 30% lower. This analysis is based on a 560 MWe (net power output) natural gas combined-cycle (NGCC) plant located at a greenfi eld site in the midwestern United States. This plant is designed to meet Best Available Control Technology (BACT) emission limits. The combination process, heat, and mass balance diagram fo...
